Nonvolatile Reconfigurable Phase-Shifted Bragg Grating Filter With Tunable Wavelength and Extinction Ratio

Nonvolatile compact on-chip optical filters with a tunable spectral response are required in low-power communication systems and applications. By capping phase change materials (PCMs) films on phase-shifted Bragg grating (PSBG), the key parameters of filter such as center wavelength extinction ratio can be tuned simultaneously for filtering or processing purposes. A 9 nm shift, amplitude modulations 16.1 dB transmission channel 42.5 reflection while keeping unchanged achieved this at 1550 nm. Moreover, device has size 500 31.9 $\mu$ m an insertion loss low -0.76 dB, making it ideal large-scale integration. The advent compact, reconfigurable, nonvolatile opens up new avenues next-generation general-purpose photonic integrated circuits (PICs) potential applications division multiplexing (WDM) systems, shaping, signal processors.
